Eyelash Growth Cycle
Women and men all over the world desire long, luscious eyelashes. Eyelashes enhance facial features by making the eye look bigger and brighter, and thick, full eyelashes add a youthful appearance. Eyelashes are also part of the safety system for the eyes. They keep dust and particles from falling into the eye, and alert the eye that something foreign is nearby so the lid has time to close before anything gets in the eye.
The aging process, environmental elements, makeup and certain beauty products damage the eyelashes over time, causing eyelashes and eyebrows to become thin and brittle. When eyelashes are healthy, they are able to grow to their full potential and have a normal, healthy growth cycle before falling out.
Eyelashes are hair, just like hair on your head. All human hair goes through three stages of development. The active, growing stage is called the Anagen Phase. For eyelashes, this phase lasts 30 to 45 days, as opposed to 2 to 6 years for the longer scalp hairs. As long as the epidermal junction (where eyelashes grow out of) is healthy, the eyelash will not fall out unless it is pulled, plucked or otherwise forced out.
The next phase is called the Catagen Phase and it lasts 2 to 3 weeks. This is a time of transition when the eyelash is no longer growing and the follicle moves into the resting phase. If an eyelash falls out during this stage, it will not grow back until the Catagen Phase is over.
The resting phase is also called the Telogen Phase and is the longest stage of the hair growth cycle. This phase lasts for 100 days or more before the eyelash falls out. Losing an eyelash during this phase means that new growth will occur faster because the growth cycle of the hair was not interrupted.
Cilea extends the growth period and strengthens the epidermal junction so that the hair growth cycle is longer and your eyelashes will not fall out as easily. After just three to five weeks of daily use, you will see fuller, thicker, healthier eyelashes.
